What it is

It reminds you to breathe. It doesn't teach you to.

Most breathing apps guide a session. Breath Bell doesn't. It sits quietly in the background and, on a schedule you set, rings a bell or buzzes your phone to remind you to pause and notice your breath — then goes quiet again. Think of it as a mindfulness alarm clock, for the moments between sessions.

Why people use it

Small, honest, and built to actually work.

Reminders that actually fire

Built to survive the aggressive background-killing that silently breaks most reminder apps on Samsung, Xiaomi, and similar phones.

Random or on a schedule

Every 20 minutes, a few times an hour, at exact clock times, or at random moments — so you don't brace for the next one.

Build your own vibration

A drag-and-drop pattern editor, plus presets like Box (4-4-4-4) and 4-7-8 that follow a breathing rhythm.

13 bell sounds

Including seven chakra bells, or import your own. Pair any bell with any vibration.

Schedule your week

Different hours each day of the week, or set exact times like 07:15, 13:20, 18:22.

Pause in a tap

From a Quick Settings tile, with flexible resume — 30 minutes, an hour, until tomorrow.

Completely free. No ads, no subscription, nothing locked.

All features are free. There's an optional tip jar (€2 / €5 / €10) if you want to say thanks — it unlocks nothing.

From the developer

I built Breath Bell because of my own depression. Reading Thich Nhat Hanh's writing on the bell of mindfulness — a sound that says "be here now" — I wanted something simple on my phone: a bell or a vibration through the day that grounds me when my thoughts go dark. It's free, and I'm sharing it in case it helps someone else.

Questions

A few things people ask

What is Breath Bell?

A free Android app — a bell of mindfulness that rings or vibrates on a schedule to call you back to the present. Built by a solo developer with depression, for the moments his thoughts go dark. Not a guided breathing pacer or a course; it's a reminder, then it goes quiet.

How is it different from other meditation apps?

Most meditation apps guide a session. Breath Bell doesn't guide anything — it rings a bell through your day so the awareness doesn't stop when a session ends, and there's nothing else in the app to open, scroll, or check.

Does it have guided meditations?

No, and that's a personal choice, not a verdict on guided meditation. I tried guided apps first and found the voice and animation distracting for my own attention — you might well find that same guidance grounding.

Is it actually free?

Yes. Every feature is free — no ads, no subscription, nothing locked. There's an optional tip jar (€2, €5, or €10) if you want to say thanks, and it unlocks nothing extra.

Does it work with my smartwatch?

A paired watch buzzes along with your phone's notifications, the same as any app. Breath Bell can't drive a smartwatch's own vibration motor directly — no third-party app can, on most watches.
